Supporting Calves From Day One With EggTek-C

Each spring, Waikato dairy farmers Lana and Marc Ball focus on giving their replacement calves the best possible start and keeping them on track to achieve key liveweight targets.

Lana is an experienced calf rearer who closely monitors calf health and growth, with the goal of developing healthy, productive animals for the herd.

Despite having a solid colostrum programme and good hygiene practices in place, each season still brings its challenges. In the past, Lana has often found herself rearing calves through to Christmas to ensure they reach their target weaning weights.

“When I was buying buckets and buckets of electrolytes, I knew there must be a better way to support calves.”" says Lana.

Looking for another way to support early calf health and growth, Lana discovered EggTek-C.

What Is EggTek-C?

Produced from high-quality, nutrient-rich whole egg powder, EggTek-C contains a minimum of 43% crude protein and 30% crude fat and is designed to support immune function and early calf growth.

For newborn calves, Lana's programme starts with quality gold colostrum. She then adds a 4g daily dose of EggTek-C from day one for the first two weeks of life.

During this time, calves are fed colostrum and whole milk twice a day, helping keep their early nutrition consistent while they get established.

Lana has also found EggTek-C particularly useful when a calf is under stress or immune pressure and needs additional support.

For these calves, she mixes 20g of EggTek-C with a small amount of milk to form a paste, which she syringes directly into the calf's mouth.
