EggTek-C to Strengthen Calf Immunity and Stay on Track for Weaning

Wayne and Sarah Balsom reared 140 calves last spring using a Holm & Laue automated calf feeder.

Rearing a mixture of dairy replacements and beef they run a tight system - calves are collected twice daily, fed gold colostrum, and housed in well-sanitised sheds with clear separation between beefies and replacements. But last spring, three weeks into the season, they hit a speed bump.

The Balsoms turned to Mike Jenkins, their Bell-Booth contact who supplied their Holm & Laue CalfExpert system, for advice. Mike recommended adding Bell-Booth EggTek-C - a high-protein, high-fat whole egg powder designed to support immunity and fuel growth, to their calves feed.

Following his suggestion, they dosed all calves through the automated feeder at 4g per head per day for three weeks.

The Holm & Laue system made it easy to track appetite and liveweight, confirming calves were still growing. By the time they weaned at 90kg, there were no visible issues in health or growth.
